- Abstract
This paper discusses how the body of lesbian and fat women is socially represented and how the series Orange Is The new Black, produced and distributed by streaming Netflix, addresses this representation. We adopted as a methodological procedure the literature review and the case study, from the perspective of Jorge Duarte. We discussed the concept of fatphobia and its relationship with the media based on research by Agnes Arruda. With the support of Naomi Wolf, Silvia Federici, Silvana Vilodre Goellner and Tania Navarro Swain, we approach gender relations and the construction of the standards established by heterocisnormative society. We consider that although the proposal of the analyzed series is to include narratives that propose to demonstrate the diversity of the representations of women, when we observe the representation of the lesbian and fat body, the socially constructed stereotypes continue to be reproduced.
