- Abstract
In order to study the change of combustion characteristics of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) after adding different mass ratios of aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MH) powder, the cone calorimeter was used to test the heat release performance and mass loss rate of PMMA with three different mass ratios of ATH and MH, and the fire risk was studied. The results show that when no flame retardant is added, the peak heat release rate of 200 mesh PMMA is the highest, which is 378.32 kW/m², and the time to reach the peak is 80 s. The peak of mass loss rate is 0.154 g/s, and the time to reach the peak is 140 s. The peak heat release rate of 500 mesh PMMA is 361.35 kW/m². The time to reach the peak is 65 s. The peak value of mass loss rate is the lowest, which is 0.153 g/s, and the time to reach the peak is 70 s. The fire hazard analysis of PMMA with three particle sizes showes that the fire growth factor (FGI) of 500 mesh PMMA is the highest, which is 5.56 kW/(m²·s). When ATH∶MH is 2∶1, the peak heat release rate of 500 mesh PMMA is the lowest, which is 93.72 kW/m², the longest ignition time is 83 s, the lowest FGI is 1.91 kW/(m²·s). When ATH∶MH is 2∶1, the inhibition effect on the combustion performance of PMMA is the best.
