REGULATION OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS.
- Authors
Werner, Ray O.; Katz, Benjamin J.
- Abstract
The article presents U.S. cases and legal developments in marketing relative to the regulation of product characteristics. In 1977 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed identity standards for certain dairy products which have common names such as "yogurt" and "lowfat yogurt," but which vary in composition and ingredients. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a consent order in 1977 prohibiting a large U.S. publishing firm from mailing and billing for unordered magazines.
