The article presents a number of court cases and legal developments pertaining to the regulation of product characteristics. The author discusses actions by the United States Department of Agriculture toward devising federal standards for processed meat products. Concerning product quality, the author notes U.S. Federal Trade Commission regulations on the posting of octane ratings on gasoline pumps.
