- Abstract
The article discusses a group of Brazilian physicians who studied medicine at the University of Montpellier in Montpellier, France at the end of the 18th century, focusing on the influence of the ideas of the French Revolution on their work and their further participation in the Independence movement of Brazil. A historical overview of the European medical ideas at that time is given. Physicians mentioned include Joaquim Ignácio de Seixas Brandão, Domingos Vidal Barbosa Lage, and Francisco Arruda da Câmara.
