- Abstract
Introduction: male factor plays a role in approximately half of the couples who consult for infertility. Objective: to estimate the relationship between male infertility risk factors and spermogram alterations in men diagnosed with infertility in the period from 2018 to 2020. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at Abel Santamaria Cuadrado Provincial General Teaching Hospital in Pinar del Río on the risk factors of infertility in men diagnosed with this condition attended the provincial infertility consultation in the period of 2 years (2018-2020). Qualitative and quantitative variables were used to which statistical techniques were applied to identify, analyze and relate them. The study was conducted in compliance with the principles of medical ethics and with the informed consent of patients and managers. Results: the study showed that varicocele and testicular surgeries were the pathologies most associated with alterations in the spermogram, coffee and alcohol were the toxic habits most associated with infertility. Smoking was the factor that most decreased concentration and altered sperm morphology. Conclusions: risk factors for male infertility produce alterations in spermogram results. Varicocele was the most frequent risk factor in patients with altered spermogram.
