- Title
Potential solution for salmon lice in aquaculture industry.
- Abstract
A team of scientists led by the Moredun Research Institute in Scotland has received funding to develop an oral vaccine to combat salmon lice in farmed Atlantic salmon. Sea lice, particularly the salmon louse, have a significant impact on the health and productivity of marine-farmed fish species. Traditional methods of administering vaccines have shown limited success, so the team is using reverse vaccinology and artificial intelligence to identify key biological targets within the salmon louse and develop a suitable vaccine. This interdisciplinary collaboration aims to provide a practical and environmentally-friendly solution to the problem of salmon lice in the aquaculture industry.
