The article deals with the use of the Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (CLSM) in dentistry, medicine and research. Topics discussed include the mechanism and function of CLSM, the advantages of CLSM, and the limitations of confocal microscopy. The use of CLSM in the microscopic examination of the cornea and assessment of surface roughness of dental biomaterials is also discussed.
