- Title
Between Nationalism and Solidarity: Assessing the KKE's Post Civil War Positioning of the Macedonian Question.
- Authors
Nastovski, Katherine
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Macedonian population. Particular focus is given to the history of the KKE's position towards Macedonian self-determination. According to the author, the KKE did not cultivate genuine solidarity with the oppression of Macedonians in its early years due to the influence of the Greek state's nationalist patriarchy. It is suggested that the modern KKE is explicitly racist in its treatment of the Macedonian population. Details on the relationship between the KKE and Macedonian national liberal organizations during the fascist occupation of Greece and the Greek Civil War of 1944-1949 are also presented.
