- Abstract
Les Kempers, a civil engineer, grew up on a farm in Iowa and initially pursued architecture before switching to structural engineering. He had the opportunity to work on the development of double-tee leg daps for his master's paper and test various embed plates at Stanley Structures. Kempers was hired by Stanley and later transitioned to project coordination, marketing, and sales. He eventually moved to Hawaii and became vice president of engineering, marketing, and sales for GPRM Prestress. Kempers has been involved with the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and was named a PCI Fellow in 2022. He has also contributed to the development of industry standards and helped launch a PCI Foundation studio at the University of Hawaii. Kempers advises young people entering the precast concrete industry to gain experience in different departments and listen to the insights of those working on the production floor.
