- Abstract
The article presents the author's views on whether it is important to consider reliability as a scientific discipline. The use of reliability in system analysis and in accidents such as airplane crashes and nuclear power catastrophes is also discussed. Authors Richard Barlow and Frank Proschan's book on reliability theory and the topics discussed in the book derived from the author's talk at the European Meeting of Statisticians are other topics mentioned.
