- Abstract
The A.S. Hornby Dictionary Research Awards Scheme (ASHDRA) is a program established by the Hornby Trust to support research in lexicography and dictionary use within English language education. The awards fund projects that aim to benefit learners of English, particularly in under-resourced contexts. Examples of funded projects include developing dictionary resources for Syrian refugees in Northern Ireland, creating a plurilingual dictionary for schoolchildren in West Borneo, and piloting bilingual dictionaries for primary schools in South Africa and rural Andhra Pradesh. The awards range in funding from less than £1,000 to £15,000, and reports on completed projects can be found on the ASHDRA website. The next Call for Proposals will be in January 2024.
