- Authors
West-Pavlov, Russell
- Abstract
The article focuses on the violent attack on asylum seekers hiding in Atlantic Wall bunkers near Calais, France in December 2002 after the closure of the Sangatte refugee camp, and examines the attack in the context of the new frontiers of the European Union (EU). It explores the notion of postcolonial haunting and the anthropomorphic nature of bunkers. It mentions the bunker photographs collected by photographer Paul Virilio depicting the haunting of European nations by their colonial pasts.
