Abstract
The article describes the qualities of a fictitious physician which are important to a happier life for patients, for communities, and for the nation. The physician is featured in the short story "Doc Mellhorn at the Pearly Gates" by U.S. poet Stephen Vincent Benét. Such qualities include unselfishness, perseverance and obstinacy when needed.
