- Title
Quantum chemistry: Quadruply bonded carbon.
- Authors
Grunenberg, Jörg
- Abstract
The article focuses on the fourth bond of two bonded carbon atoms (C2). It mentions that the C2 molecule is distinguished in its exited and electronic ground state, with 1.24 ångströms bonding distance. It states that C2 is a member of molecular sick list, which is referred to molecules' roll call with poor results on the computational methods of ab initio where C2 is also described as quantum chemistry's most notoriously troublesome cases. Moreover, it says that C2 as an quadruply bonded molecule indicates pronounced restoring force for the equilibrium position of its atoms.
