- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines stakeholder perspectives about surf tourism and sustainable community development in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia. The study used the interpretive paradigm and grounded theory approach to investigate the culture, history, and tourism development in the islands. Results show that the surf tourists travelling to the islands were Australians or Americans who are well-educated middle-aged males with high discretionary income.
