- Title
Spation Structures and Forms in The Professor's House.
- Authors
Moseley, Ann; Rosowski, Susan J.
- Abstract
The article analyzes the structure and form created by novelist Willa Cather in her book "The Professor's House." The author compares this work with other contemporary novels, including "Madame Bovary," by Gustav Flaubert. The author focuses on the meaning of the image of the open window, which, she argues, symbolizes childhood, idealistic aspirations, and emotional emptiness at different points within the novel. Metaphors within the novel are discussed, including those of the sonata and Dutch paintings.
