- Abstract
The article discusses the abuse and murder of Utah child Isaac Whitehouse in 1855. It examines the events leading up to Whitehouse's death including his family's journey with other Mormons from England to the U.S. on the ship "Windermere," the abuse he suffered from caretakers Samuel G. Baker and Elizabeth Ward Baker, and the trial of the Bakers, particularly the testimony of Parowan City, Utah, recorder James Henry Martineau. It also discusses the pardon issued to Samuel G. Baker by then-Utah governor Brigham Young.
