- Abstract
The article explores the collective memory and historiography of the San Juan Island dispute and border conflict known as the Pig War between the U.S. and Great Britain. Emphasis is given to topics such as the accuracy of journalist Julian Ralph in chronicling the dispute, the marginalization of local history during the professionalization of historical scholarship and Canadian national development, and the establishment of the San Juan Island National Historical Park.
