- Title
Genetics of PTSD: Fear Conditioning as a Model for Future Research.
- Authors
Amstadter, Ananda B.; Nugent, Nicole R.; Koenen, Karestan C.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of genetic factors in the etiology of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) focusing on an understanding of the underlying neurobologic alterations in patients with PTSD. It cites the cases of a higher prevalence of PTSD in trauma-exposed family members in the Holocaust survivors and the Cambodian refugees. It suggests that further research on risk models and resilience factors may offer an understanding on the discrepancy in the prevalence of those exposed to a potentially traumatic event against those who develop PTSD.
