- Abstract
This study aims to report an unusual case of adrenocortical carcinoma in a Crioulo horse. Clinical signs consisted of colic episodes and heart disturbances. The animal was euthanized and sent for pathologic evaluation. At necropsy was observed a mass in the region of the right adrenal gland with adjacent adherence and hemorrhage in the colon, and whitish areas in the heart. Microscopically, the mass was composed of neoplastic epithelial cells arranged in cords and pleomorphic areas. Ultrastructurally, tumor cells were observed with a large number of mitochondria and vacuoles cholesterol, confirming epithelial origin. Findings were compatible with the adrenocortical carcinoma and cardiac disorders resulting from the neoplastic process.
