- Abstract
This formative communication campaign research includes two studies related to a college campus smoke free policy. Study one assesses attitudes about a smoke free policy and incorporates components of the Health Belief Model. Data from students (N=423) and faculty members (N=32) suggest generally positive perceptions of smoke free policies although smoker and non-smoker perceptions differ. Study two asked students (N=244) to evaluate potential campaign messages along several dimensions (e.g., preference, uniqueness). Participants rated a campaign message with a succinct message, clear visuals, and clever tag line highest across all dimensions. This information can help guide campus-based smoke free policy campaigns.
