- Abstract
Two field experiments were conducted at EL-Serw Agricultural Research Station the Agricultural Res. Center, Damietta Governorate during 2012 and 2013 summer seasons to evaluate the effect of applied herbicides as individuals, i.e. Gesagard 50%SC (prometryn) at500 g/faddan, Harness 84% EC (acetochlor) at 840g/faddan, Stomp 45.5%CS (pendimethalin) at 455g/faddan, Sencor 60%WP (metribuzin ) at 180 g/faddan and added to two post-emergence herbicides i.e. Select super 12.5% EC (clethodim) at 62.5 g/faddan and Fusilade fortey15% EC (fluzifop-p-butyl) at 150 g/faddan treatments on controlling weeds and sweet potato production and its economic feasibility of these treatments as compared to hand hoeing once and untreated check. The main findings of this research revealed that, prometryn at500 g/faddan, prometryn & clethodim at (500 & 62.5) g/faddan, pendimethalin & clethodim at (455 & 62.5) g/faddan, prometryn & fluzifop-p-butyl at (500 & 150) g/faddan and pendimethalin & fluzifop-p-butyl at (455 & 150) g/faddan were gave the highest significant effect on controlling Portulaca oleraceae by 86,95,99,95 and 93%, respectively, in1st season, and, prometryn & clethodim at (500 & 62.5) g/faddan, prometryn & fluzifop-p-butYI at (500 & 150) g/faddan and pendimethalin at 455 g/faddan herbicidal treatments gave 94,93 and 92%, respectively, in 2nd season. The effect of weed control treatments on grass weeds and broadleaf no significant in first season and high significant in second season, acetochlor at 840 g/faddan prometryn & clethodim at (500 & 62.5) g/faddan, prometryn & fluzifop-pbutyl at (500&150) g/faddan and pendimethalin at 455 g/faddan were gave the high effect of controlling total broadleaf by, 96,94,93 and 92%, respectively during 2013 season, but, combination of treatments used gave 100% control to grass weeds. Secondly ,the effect of weed control treatments on total weeds (total broadleaf + total grass weeds) high significant trough two seasons, pendimethalin & clethodim ( 455 & 62.5) g/faddan, metribuzin & clethodim (180 & 62.5) g/faddan, prometryn & fluzifop-p-butyl at (500 & 150) g/faddan and pendimethalin & fluzifop-p-butyl at (455 & 150) g/faddan were gave 98,95,95 and 92%, respectively in first season and prometryn & clethodim at (500 & 62.5), Acetochlor at 840, prometryn & fluzifop-pbutyl at (500 & 150) g/faddan and pendimethalin at 455 g/faddan gave 94,93,93 and 92%, respectively in second season. For sweet potato yields, the herbicides treatments, pendimethalin & clethodim at ( 455 & 62.5) g/faddan, metribuzin & dethodim at (180 & 62.5) g/faddan, hand hoeing once and metribuzin & fluzifop-p-butyl at (180 & 150) g/faddan gave increasing on throne weight of sweet potato by 155,143,122 and 117% , respectively, compared to untreated check (15.5 ton/faddan) in first season ;meanwhile, the herbicidal treatments, metribuzin & clethodim at (180 & 62.5) g/faddan, metribuzin & fluzifop-pbutyl at(180 &150) g/faddan, hand hoeing once and prometryn at 500 gjfaddan were gave the highest increasing values by ,208,207,165 and 148%, respectively, compared to untreated check (11.7 ton/faddan) in the second season .The highest significant increasing values of root sweet potato yield were obtained by the following treatments in a descending orders pendimethalin at 455 g/faddan, prometryn at 500 g/faddan, acetochlor & clethodim at (840 & 62.5) g/faddan and pendimethalin & fluzifop-p-butyl at (455 & 150)g/faddan were gave ,56,54,51 and 43% increase in root yield, compared to untreated check by 14.7 ton/ faddan, in the first season . In second season, the highest significant increasing values of root yield were achieved by the following treatments in a descending order: prometryn at 500 g/faddan, pendimethalin & fluzifop-p-butyl at (455 & 150) g/faddan ,pendimethalin at 455 g/faddan and pendimethalin & clethodim at( 455 & 62.5) g/faddan ,45,37,36 and 33%, respectively, compared to untreated check by 15.6 ton/faddan. The treatments gave the highest significant increasing values of the total yields (throne weight & root yield) of sweet potato were pendimethalin & clethodim at ( 455 & 62.5) g/faddan, metribuzin & clethodim at (180&62.5) g/faddan, hand hoeing once and acetochlor & clethodim at (840 & 62.5) g/faddan gave, 94,81,72 and 71% increase in total yield during 2012 season, compared to untreated check by30.2 ton/faddan. The treatments gave the highest significant increasing values of the total yields of sweet potato were pendimethalin & clethodim at ( 455 & 62.5) g/faddan, metribuzin & clethodim at (180 & 62.5) g/faddan, ,metribuzin & fluzifop-p-butyl at (180 & 150) g/faddan ,and prometryn at 500 g/faddan gave,114,99,96 and 89% increase in total yield during 2013 season, compared to untreated check by 27.3 ton/faddan. It was noticed that treatments prometryn at 500 g/faddan and acetochlor & clethodim at (840 & 62.5) g/faddan as a single herbicides were superior treatments on benefit cost ratio in both seasons addition to pendimethalin & clethodim at ( 455 & 62.5) g/faddan in the 2nd season.
