- Title
Introduction: The Global Reparations Movement.
- Authors
Theriault, Henry C.
- Abstract
The article discusses the global reparations movement for historical injustices. The author discusses the increasing activities of the movement in the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. The author contends that the issue of reparations has not been considered a vital enough element in legal, political or ethical discussions globally. Reparations movements for several historical injustices are discussed, including the Armenian Genocide from 1915 to 1923, the Jewish Holocaust and for African American slaves. The author emphasizes that the U.S. decision to compensate Japanese Americans interned during World War II was an influential event in both recognizing and compensating victims of historical injustices.
