- Authors
HESKETH, IAN
- Abstract
This essay presents an exploration into the early literary career of the English author and historian John Robert Seeley during 1866, the first year of the anonymous publication of his biographical essay of Jesus Christ, entitled "Ecce Homo." Topics addressed include Seeley's inability to keep his identity secret surrounding the work, the extent to which popular debate for and against his work undermined his anonymity, and the episode's impact on his future writing.
