- Abstract
The article features George Apostolakis, a prominent figure in probabilistic risk assessment in the U.S. in the 1980s and 1990s. He war born in the island of Crete in Greece and his favorite subjects were mathematics and ancient Greek language and culture. He earned his engineering science and applied mathematics degrees from California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He also served in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.
