- Abstract
This document is a letter published in the Annals of Hematology that explores the impact of statin use on disease-related symptoms in patients with chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The study included 100 MPN patients and found that statin users had a higher total symptom score (TSS) compared to non-users, specifically experiencing more abdominal discomfort and inactivity. However, in a multiple regression analysis, only female sex and the presence of anemia remained independently associated with a higher TSS. The study suggests that while statins may have benefits in controlling thrombotic risk and cytoreduction, they may not alleviate symptom burden in MPNs. The authors acknowledge the limitations of the study and recommend further prospective studies on the use of statins in MPNs.
