- Abstract
The article focuses on animal extinction. According to it, this concept of extinction was generally recognized by the 1860s with the publication of Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species." It states that it was only in the early 20th century when conservation efforts were initiated as people recognized declines in bird populations linked to massive habitat loss, millinery trade and overhunting.
