The article profiles American flutist and pedagogue Robert Willoughby. Willoughby was named American Grandmaster of the Flute by the magazine, "Flute." He is considered one of the most successful flute teachers of his time, a distinguished orchestral musician and solo performer and a pioneer of baroque flute playing in his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and trained as a bomber pilot during World War II. He played assistant principal for the Cleveland Orchestra during 1946-1955.
