- Abstract
The article discusses maritime piracy, examining efforts of the international community to reduce the success of pirates operating from Somalia in the Gulf of Aden. 20,000 ships pass through the gulf annually, the author states, carrying cargo that includes 12 percent of the global oil supply. Other topics include attempts to eradicate maritime piracy completely, networks of shipping states and maritime partners that collaborate to respond to piracy attacks, and warships from NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) conducting anti-piracy patrols.
