- Abstract
The article examines the thoughtful and important criticism of Peter Markie for an attempt to defend a traditional version of foundationalism based on his research "Classical Foundationalism and Speckled Hens." According to that foundationalism, there is noninferential justification for S to believe P when S is directly acquainted with the truthmaker for P (the fact that P), the thought that P, and the thoughts corresponding to the fact that P. It hypothesizes that all classical foundationalist might claim that one who is directly acquainted with an experience can be also often acquainted with some of the non-relational properties of such experience. However, Markie speculates that some classical foundationalist may also complain since the criticism demands too much of their view.
