MALE UNEMPLOYMENT AND THE FAMILY EXPENDITURE SURVEY 1972-80.
- Authors
Micklewright, John
- Abstract
The article provides evidence about the male unemployed in Great Britain from the Family Expenditure Survey (FES) from 1972 to 1980. It focuses on the occupation and earnings in the last jobs of the unemployed. The article demonstrates the value of a household survey as a source for studying unemployment. It discusses the importance of establishing the credentials of household surveys due to the substantial element of non-response that occurs and the small sample sizes in individual years.
