SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF HEALTH.
- Authors
Mackenzie, W. Leslie
- Abstract
This article provides information on the author's discussion on sociological aspects of public health movement in Great Britain. The expert of the movement is the Medical Officer of Health. At first, the unspeakable abominations of the environment drew the fire of the Public Health services and continue to draw it. The abstraction of the Medical Officer of Health has preceded so far that it is genuine administrative danger. The little book on Malaria, a neglected factor in the history of Greece and Rome, is introduced by Major Ronald Ross, whose discovery of the true malaria mosquito is among the most brilliant and romantic discoveries of science. There is an essay in conclusion by Dr. G. G. Ellett, who points the difference in vigour and valour between the malaria and the non-malarial countries or parts of countries. One defect of the book is the failure to supply translations with quotations. Nevertheless the book is a scholarly piece of work and deserves the most careful attention. of new administrative departures, perhaps the most important internationally is the Public Health Act passed in 1907. The regulation issued under this Act affect the trade in foods of every kind imported from the Colonies or other countries.
