- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the investigational procedure called ovarian tissue cryopreservation, a procedure which may enable women to bear their own biological child after transplant. In this procedure, the woman's ovary is removed laparoscopically using a small telescope-like instrument and frozen before cancer treatment. The procedure takes less than an hour and requires only a few hours in out-patient recovery, according to doctors. Hospitals and other medical institutions are now offering this kind of procedure, including the Fertility Preservation Program developed at Northwestern University.
