- Abstract
The article looks at a study which focuses on portrayals of Brynhildr Buðladóttir and Guðrún Gjúkadóttir in the eddic heroic poems and professed bewilderment over the texts' implied motivations for the characters' bloody actions. It mentions female reactions to male violence in eddic heroic poetry and ways in which masculinity works to subjugate femininity, and how male-female binaries of power are established. It also mentions aspect of the poems' ambivalent portraits of Brynhildr and Guðrún.
