- Title
Over-Determined Topography in Knut Hamsun's "Dronningen av Saba.".
- Authors
Rees, Ellen
- Abstract
The article focuses on the short text "Dronningen av Saba" or "The Queen of Sheba," by Knut Hamsun, which appeared in the 1987 collection "Siesta." The author notes that the short text exhibits a toponymic specificity bordering on the absurd and is in tension with the protagonist's confusion over the terrain he traverses. A brief overview of the relationship between topography and genre in short-story scholarship is offered. In addition, the train in "Dronningen av Saba" has been analyzed by scholars, as well as the issue of why Hamsun devoted so much space to the meticulous recording of place names.
