The article discusses physical approaches to increase the strength and packing density of concrete made with blended cements in North America. Approaches include increasing the C3S and C3A contents of the clinker and grinding the blended cement, and the use of a high-range water-reducing admixture to reduce the water-binder ratio (w/b). Information on various mathematical models of cement hydration is presented.
