The article uses the simple tool of Monte Carlo simulation to illustrate the phenomenon why customers and suppliers view product defect rates differently. Topics include use of Monte Carlo method to treat batch production, continuous materials; analysis to tabulate the real and perceived defect rates experienced by supplier and customer; and role of creating a virtual production run of parts and walking an observer through the measurement and sorting processes step by step for evaluations.
