- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in German Studies programs at the college level. It highlights the national Structured Program for the Acquisition of German in the U.S. (SPARK) as an effective initiative that promotes intercultural awareness and diversifies the German teaching field. The SPARK program emphasizes accessibility, provides free teaching materials with diverse representation, and encourages individual labs to add their own emphasis. The article also discusses the benefits of the SPARK program for both college students and elementary school students, including increased global awareness and teaching skills. It concludes by noting the potential for the SPARK program to continue growing and advocating for the next generation of German teachers.
