- Abstract
The article explores the implications for science teaching of a research on competence. The theoretical background of the study included hypotheses concerning the effects upon pupils' interest of interactions of the teacher variables. The article suggests that pupils can provide reliable information about teacher variables, if behavioral items are used. It cites major differences in the science interest of boys and girls. The study indicates that teachers who utilize intrinsic motivation tend to increase their pupils' interest in science.
