- Abstract
This article presents key strategies for successful implementation of integrated energy performance projects. Examples are drawn from case studies of two very different AEE-award-winning projects: Mount Sinai Brooklyn Hospital, which reduced its energy bills by 39%; and the Montreal Biodome nature museum, which reduced its energy bills by 52%. Both sites benefited from targeted, innovative technical solutions as well as a shared approach to project design and management. We found the following three key concepts critical to the projects' success: (i) a whole-building engineering approach; (ii) integrated project delivery involving continuous collaboration; and (iii) contractual accountability to delivering project outcomes.
