- Abstract
Essential oils are natural substances derived from aromatic plants that are used in the manufacture of various cosmetics. An essential oil can contain various constituents, among them terpenes are emphasized, a chemical compound present in several plants responsible for producing odor and flavor. One example is eucalyptol essential oil, a compound extracted from plants such as eucalyptus that has several therapeutic properties. Terpenes come in different forms, among which monoterpenes stand out, organic substances that are gradually being used as a form of complementary treatment for various pathologies. 1,8-cineol or eucalyptol is a monoterpene extracted mainly from plants such as eucalyptus (but also from cinnamon, ginger, rosemary, mint and peppermint) that has several anti-inflammatory, analgesic, skeletal muscle relaxing properties and also antihypertensive drugs, as already evidenced in other studies. It is also capable of contributing positively to pathologies such as asthmatic bronchitis, inflammation of the nasal mucosa, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses of the nose and hypertension. In view of this, the study of eucalyptol is important, since herbal medicines are being used more in the pharmaceutical market. From this perspective, the present work aims to indicate, through an in silico analysis, the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic particularities of this molecule. Data from scientific articles researched in the PubMed and SciELO databases were gathered, in addition to the research carried out with the software SwissADME, Smartcyp and also Swiss Target Prediction. It was concluded that this monoterpene has pharmacological potential, proving to be a beneficial substance that demands further studies.
