The article focuses on the relationship between exposure to heavy metals and the risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD), a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive loss of motor and cognitive functions. Topics discussed include a systematic review and meta-analysis of numerous metals, their various biological matrices, and different sources of exposure, revealing inconsistent associations with the risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
