- Abstract
The text classifies needs and satisfactors of Human-scale Development, taking as empirical environment, economical enterprises in the handicraft segment and, as its theoretical-methodological reference, the matrix of needs and satisfactors by Max-Neef (2012). The study followed three paths: a systematic review at the stricto sensu postgraduate level in Brazil; data collection, through a focus group, along with nine economic enterprises in solidarity with the handicraft; creation of statements for the findings and framing in the matrix. In this text, experiences of artisans combined with the existential and axiological needs that appear prominently in the four stricto sensu-postgraduate studies carried out in Brazil are discussed. As a result, the self-management dimension of studied enterprises is highlighted, the nature of the productive activity and the profile of the workers involved – housewives, retired women, pensioners – explaining the presence of axiological needs: idleness, creation, freedom, participation and understanding (MAX-NEEF, 2012), and spirituality (PEREIRA, 2011).
