- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between the Soviet Union's Gulag and the social conditions of Soviet society, including in regard to the political repression in the country and the prisoners' conditions in labor camps. An overview of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin's rule, including Stalinist policies of terrorizing the population, is provided.
