- Abstract
An imbalance between cell proliferation and cell death leads to tumorigenesis. The PI3 kinase/Akt/mTOR pathway represents one of the main pathways implicated in tumorigenesis. Thus, the inhibition of this pathway has become an attractive area of cancer research. The first studies of rapamycin, an mTOR inhibitor, and its derivatives revealed promising results. Here, we provide a review of the PI3 kinase/Akt/mTOR pathway and mTOR inhibitors.
