- Abstract
This article examines changes in medication initiation and selection patterns for the management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) among Tennessee Medicaid recipients. The study found that the prevalence of medication use among GDM patients has increased over time, with metformin now being the most commonly initiated medication. The study also observed a shift in medication preferences, with metformin replacing glyburide as the most commonly used initial medication. These findings suggest possible differential prescribing preferences based on socioeconomic status or regional differences. The study highlights the need for further research on factors influencing medication selection for GDM management and the clinical impact of prescribing pattern changes on perinatal outcomes and healthcare costs.
