- Abstract
The article focuses on strategies parents use to evade the French school allocation system, the carte scolaire, by requesting a special government dispensation or drafting a letter asking the authorities to permit a school transfer out of district. The author discusses the parents' common characteristics. Also discussed is the research which analyzed letters localized in socially and ethnically heterogeneous French cities. Further topics include the various types of letters such as the ones addressed to mayors, school principals, and the national education inspector.
