- Abstract
To date, much of the previous research has conceptualized romantic love in a traditionally feminine manner. As a result, our view of romantic love may be limited by not including more traditionally masculine ways of experiencing love. Thus, the purpose of this study was to provide a deeper and more accurate description of the construct of romantic love by exploring how 10 married men experienced and gave meaning to love. From the interviews, several themes emerged and were labeled as follows: process, connection and interdependency, appreciation transformation, and demonstrations of love. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are also discussed in terms of the need to develop a more multi-faceted and complex definition of this important relational construct.
