Neue Krisen – neue Generationenkonflikte?

- Abstract
Recently, there have been increasing signs that, under the influence of the climate crisis on the one hand and the Corona crisis on the other, new mutual accusations, charges and resentments have arisen between the »old« and the »young«, which sometimes reach a considerable degree of acrimony and bitterness. At the same time, the accusations addressed to the respective »counter generation « have a fairly analogous structure. In different ways, it is always about the degree of responsibility, foresight and consideration that is expected from the other age group, but at the same time is sorely lacking. If, with regard to the climate crisis, it is a question of the extent to which the »old« are prepared to change their lifestyle, to restrict themselves in order to enable the next generation to have a future worth living, then the generational problem with regard to the Corona crisis is almost a mirror image of the other way round: To what extent are »the young« (who themselves are much less affected by massive direct health damage caused by the virus) prepared to change their lifestyle and way of dealing with and spending their leisure time, to make sacrifices in order to protect the risk groups – i. e. above all »the old«? And what does it mean for the developmental tasks specific to each age group, namely dealing with the issues of »identity« on the one hand and »generativity« on the other, when one is confronted with serious reproaches and demands from the older or younger generation?Of course, in this context, the question still needs to be addressed whether and to what extent those fierce generation-related accusations, reproaches and attributions of guilt are more a phenomenon of media discourse or more one of the »everyday family dinner table«.
